La Tomatina, the most popular food fight festival of Spain makes its mark every year in the last week of August since 1945. The festival had its origin when a group of youths engaged over a fight with the rivals marching in the parade. During the fight between the two entities one amongst them fell down. His wrath was so relinquishing that he started throwing everything he found in the way, unfortunately the objects were of a vegetables shop. La Tomatina gets the name from the Spanish word “Tomate” meaning tomatoes. Up till 2012 nearly 40,000-50,000 people migrated to Bunol to enjoy the bustling madness the festival offers. However, the strength of people accommodation in Bunol is 9000 maximum.
To maintainthe tranquility of the town, the authorities popped the idea of ticketing for the event, with a limit stating that maximum 20,000 people can lively accommodate in the battle. Before embarking on the madness every participant is conditioned to thatthe fight will commence only when the ham visible at the peak of the greased pole is attained. Past to the stopwatch time no one is permitted to pelt tomatoes at anyone. Trucks loaded with over-ripened tomatoes imported from Extremadura are unloaded at the town square named Plaza Del Pueblo. Whilst moving around the open space the truck continues to debunk the tomatoes on the people present, transforming the space to a pulp pool. After thefun brawl is over the city enrolls to the duty of cleaning the mess made in the time. Fire-trucks are hired by the authorities to leverage the water supply from the Roman aqueduct.The water canon washes away the residue by revamping the town to its normal state.
